What is Astigmatism?
In a nutshell, astigmatism is the inability of the cornea to properly focus an image on the retina. The result is blurred vision. In your efforts to overcome the blurred vision you can put strain on the eyes resulting in headaches and eye fatigue.
So what causes the cornea to improperly focus? Well a non-astigmatic eye has a spherical shape similar to a baseball, while astigmatic eye has a shape more similar to a football. The irregular shape of the astigmatic eye causes different focal points which can result in either myopia (short sightedness), hypermetropia or hyperopia (long sightedness). I will discuss these two conditions in more detail later.

What is Presbyopia?
Presbyopia also known as "old eye" is the inability of the eye to focus on near objects due to a natural loss of flexibility in the natural lens of the eye. This condition is age related and usually develops in your 40’s.
The symptoms are similar to those in astigmatism, i.e. blurred vision, headaches, eye strain and eye fatigue.

What is Myopia?
Myopia is the medical term for nearsightedness. If you are myopic you can see close objects clearly while distant objects appear blurred causing you to squint. This again can lead to eye strain, eye fatigue and headaches.
Myopia is caused when light is focused in front of the retina rather than exactly on it. Myopia is the most common eyesight problem in the world and affects at least 25% of Americans. Some causes of myopia can be your environment, such as long periods of work in front of a computer monitor. Even emotional stress has been sited as a possible cause. The debate continues over if genetics is a contributing factor.
Solution to Myopia
The good news is that there are numerous brands, styles and wear schedules in contact lenses for myopia. Here are some of the most recommended names on the market: ACUVUE, ACUVUE 2 , ACUVUE Advance , ACUVUE OASYS , 1-DAY ACUVUE , ACUVUE 2 COLOURS Enhancers , Optima Toric , Optima 38 SP, Soflens 66 Contacts and Soflens One Day Contacts .
What is Hyperopia?
Hyperopia or farsightedness is the opposite of myopia. This is the inability of the eye to focus on nearby objects. If you have to stretch your arms to read the menu, you might be hyperopic. Doing close extended close work can lead to eye strain, eye fatigue and headaches.
Hyperopia is caused when light is focused behind the retina rather than exactly on it. If you are hyperopic your eye ball is shorter (front to back) than usual. Solution to Hyperopia
Many great brands of contact lenses are available to treat hyperopia. Here are a few of the most popular brands: ACUVUE, ACUVUE 2 , ACUVUE Advance , ACUVUE OASYS , 1-DAY ACUVUE , ACUVUE 2 COLOURS Enhancers , Optima Toric , Optima 38 SP, Soflens 66 Contacts and Soflens One Day Contacts .
